About Fireplace Logs

Most people who have fireplaces are often looking for logs to burn in them. It isn’t always as easy as one would think since some are gas fireplace logs, some are electric fireplace logs, and some just don’t burn all that well, and for some people who can’t just go out and cut some wood anytime they need it, it means having to experiment while spending money.

One way to help heat a home is with a wood burning fireplace, however, if the wood gets wet or it is poor quality to begin with there is a chance that it won’t work so well. Thankfully for some people who don’t want to have this type of problem there are other types of logs available, like gas and electric models. There are a few things to consider when trying to choose yours though.

Fireplace LogsFirst thing to think about is its use. Do you plan to use it for when electricity goes out, or just whenever? If you plan to use them for when the electricity goes out then you obviously don’t want the electric variety, so you want either gas or just plain wood.  If you have a deck or something were you want to store firewood then just plain wood is probably your best bet, assuming you can keep it dry, but if you want to be able to just keep a couple of pieces around and indoors then you’ll probably be better off with just the gas version.

Another thing you should consider is the area that you have to burn them. Some of them, like vented gas logs, require more of an open area with a flue and everything to burn safely, but others require less. Also, if you are looking for heat, vented gas fireplace logs aren’t a very good choice because there is only a little, but the vent free models will help to keep a room warm, some even have a built in thermostat so you can control the heat. Electric log sets also provide good heat, and they are safe and require no ventilation and there is no need to actually build a fireplace for them. Plus, the elctric types are looking more realistic as time progresses. It all depends on your taste and room though.

Once you have chosen the type of types of fireplace logs you prefer all that is really left is buying your logs. You can buy fireplace logs online or in stores like the Home Depot and Lowes, whichever you find is more convenient for you.
